Recently, the Kansas City Business Journal toured Plexpod Westport Commons, which held a soft opening in March, and one thing is for sure: the coworking campus has no shortage of amenities.

Plexpod founder Gerald Smith said to think of it as your world headquarters, but without all the overhead.

Phase 1 of the project is 160,000 square feet and involved the restoration of the former Westport Middle School. The school's historic theater and girls' gym were transformed into event spaces, and there's also two rooftop decks, Google Fiber, a fitness area, digital maker space and temperature controls in every room.

Plexpod, which got its start with a facility in Lenexa, also is building out a 4,000-square-foot shared retail space for full-service coffee shop Brew Gallery and for The Sundry, which will feature a variety of food offerings. Also in the works is an urban farming and gardening area, which The Sundry plans to use as the source for some of its produce.

The coworking space features common areas on every floor and 16 different work styles, from dedicated desks to lounges to private offices to cafe-style booths.
